Frequently asked questions

You’re busy. You don’t want a sales pitch. You just want straight answers about your roof, siding, windows, gutters, and decks around Branson and Table Rock Lake.

This FAQ mixes the real objections we hear all the time with the questions people type into Google and ask friends at church.

General questions about working with GoodWorks Home Co

  • Are you local or a storm chaser that will vanish?

We’re local. Tyler is a Branson High School graduate. Our family lives, works, and worships right here around Table Rock Lake. You’ll see us at Branson Hills ball fields, church events, and Walmart.

GoodWorks Home Co is not a fly-by-night roofing contractor. We’re licensed, insured, BBB accredited, and members of the Table Rock Lake Chamber. Your warranty is backed by someone with deep roots here, not a crew that disappears after hail season.

  • What services do you actually handle?

We’re a one-stop exterior contractor. That means one call covers:

    • Roofing contractor services – Asphalt shingle roof replacement and repair, standing seam metal roof installation, metal roof repair & maintenance, hail damage roof repair, roof inspection, storm damage assessment, roof leak detection.
    • Siding contractor services – Vinyl siding, fiber cement / Hardie board siding, siding repair and partial replacement, soffit and fascia installation and repair.
    • Window installation service – Vinyl replacement windows, wood and custom windows, sliding glass patio doors, window repair and resealing, hardware repair, energy-efficient window upgrades.
    • Gutter service – Seamless gutter installation, gutter repair and cleaning, downspout installation and extensions, gutter guards and protection systems.
    • Deck builder services – Composite decks, wood decks, deck repair, deck refinishing and staining, pergolas, gazebos, and pavilions.

If it’s on the outside of your home or vacation rental, we likely handle it.

  • How does your Christian faith show up in your work?

We don’t preach on job sites. We let our work and how we treat people speak.

Our business is built on 1 Thessalonians 4:11–12—to work with our hands, mind our own business, and live in a way that earns respect. For you, that means we:

    • Show up when we say we will
    • Charge what we quoted
    • Fix our mistakes
    • Give 10% of profits to local churches, school lunch debt, and home giveaways for families in crisis

You don’t have to share our faith to work with us. You just get the benefit of it.

  • Do you work with vacation rental owners and property managers?

Yes. A big part of our work is for vacation rentals and short-term rentals around Table Rock Lake, Indian Point, Kimberling City, Branson West, and Ridgedale.

    We understand:

    • Tight turnarounds between guests
    • Quiet hours and guest experience
    • HOA and resort guidelines
    • The need for fast, clean, professional crews

We can handle asphalt shingle repairs, deck repairs, sliding glass door upgrades, gutter cleaning, and more between bookings.

Roofing questions

  • Do I really need a whole new roof, or can you just repair it?

We start with inspection, not assumptions.

    • If your asphalt shingle roof is under about 15 years old and damage is in a small area, roof repair is usually smart.
    • If your roof is older (18–25+ years) or hail/wind damage is spread across many areas, roof replacement is often the better use of your money.

We’ll show you photos, explain what we see in simple language, and tell you what we’d do if it was our own home. If a repair can get you 5–10 more years, we’ll say that.

  • What’s the difference between asphalt shingle and standing seam metal roofing?

    Asphalt shingle roofs:

    • Lower upfront cost
    • 20–25 year lifespan when installed and vented well
    • Lots of color choices
    • Great for budget-minded homeowners and rental properties

    Standing seam metal roofs:

    • Higher upfront cost
    • 40–70 year lifespan
    • Excellent hail and wind resistance
    • Reflects heat, can lower energy bills
    • Looks great on luxury lakefront homes and custom builds

If you plan to stay long-term or want premium protection for a high-value lakefront property, metal is often the best long-term play. If budget is tight or it’s a rental you might sell, asphalt may be wiser.

  • How do I know if hail actually damaged my roof?

From the ground, you usually can’t tell. That’s the problem.

    After a storm, we:

    • Climb the roof and check shingles or metal panels
    • Look for bruised shingles, granule loss, and dents on vents and gutters
    • Mark off “test squares” to count hail hits in a set area
    • Check your attic for leaks or wet spots

We then show you clear photos. If the hail damage meets insurance standards, we document it for your claim. If not, we tell you your roof is okay and we put you on a checkup schedule instead of pushing work you don’t need.

  • Can you fix a roof leak without replacing the whole roof?

    Yes, often we can.

We track the leak from the stain on your ceiling up into the attic, then follow water paths to the actual entry point on the roof. Common leak sources:

    • Cracked or missing shingles
    • Bad flashing around chimneys, skylights, or vents
    • Failed sealant where different materials meet
    • Old nail holes or punctures

Once we find the source, we repair that area and test it. You shouldn’t have to replace a full roof just because of one small leak.

  • How long does roof replacement usually take?

Most asphalt shingle roof replacements take 1–3 days. Larger or complex roofs may take 3–5 days.

Metal roof installation can take a bit longer because of custom panel work and details. We’ll give you a clear schedule before we start and keep you updated daily.

Siding, soffit & fascia questions

  • Should I choose vinyl or fiber cement (Hardie) siding?

Both are good; they just fit different goals.

    Vinyl siding installation:

    • More affordable
    • Low maintenance
    • Great for rentals and budget-friendly homes

Fiber cement / Hardie board siding:

    • More durable and fire-resistant
    • Heavier, stronger, and more stable
    • Beautiful wood-like look without wood rot
    • Ideal for high-end homes and lakefront properties

We’ll help you pick what fits your home, your budget, and your long-term plans.

  • Can you repair just part of my siding or do I have to redo everything?

We can repair or partially replace siding when damage is localized.

If a storm hits one side, or a grill or boat rubs a section, we can:

    • Replace damaged panels
    • Match color as closely as possible (older siding may have faded)
    • Check the wall for hidden moisture damage

If your whole home’s siding is brittle, warped, or failing, it may be time for a full update. We’ll be honest about which path makes sense.

  • What are soffit and fascia, and why do they matter?

Soffit is the underside of your roof overhang. Fascia is the board along the roof edge where gutters attach.

    They matter because they:

    • Keep critters out of your attic
    • Help your roof breathe and avoid moisture buildup
    • Protect rafters and roof edges from rot
    • Give your home a finished look

We handle soffit and fascia installation and repair, often together with roofing or siding projects.

Window & door questions

  • Are new windows really worth the money?

    For many homes, yes.

    Vinyl replacement windows can:

    • Reduce drafts and hot/cold spots
    • Lower utility bills
    • Cut noise from traffic and neighbors
    • Improve curb appeal and resale value

For luxury lakefront homes, wood or custom windows can frame lake views and satisfy HOA or design rules. We’ll walk you through cost vs. benefit so you can decide with clear numbers, not just feelings.

  • Do I have to replace all my windows at once?

No. Many clients do it in phases:

    • Phase 1: Worst windows (leaking, rotting, or jammed)
    • Phase 2: Bedrooms and main living areas
    • Phase 3: Less-used rooms and basements

We’ll help you prioritize based on safety, comfort, and budget.

  • What’s the benefit of upgrading to energy-efficient windows?

    Energy-efficient windows:

    • Keep hot air out in summer and warm air in during winter
    • Reduce your HVAC workload
    • Cut down on drafts and condensation
    • Help control utility bills

For vacation rentals, modern, clean windows also show better in photos and help with guest comfort and reviews.

  • Do you also install sliding glass patio doors?

Yes. Sliding glass patio door installation is one of our favorite upgrades.

    It improves:

    • Access to decks and patios
    • Natural light
    • Views of Table Rock Lake or your backyard

We remove the old unit, fix any rot we find, install the new door, and seal it tight against water and air leaks.

Gutter & drainage questions

  • Do I really need seamless gutters, or are regular ones fine?

Regular sectional gutters work, but seamless gutters are usually better for long-term protection:

    • Fewer joints, so fewer leak points
    • Cleaner look along the roof line
    • Custom-made on-site to fit your home

In our hills and heavy rain, good gutters help keep water away from your foundation, decks, and landscaping.

  • How often should I have my gutters cleaned?

Most homes around Branson and Table Rock Lake need gutter cleaning 1–2 times per year. More if you have heavy tree cover.

    Clogged gutters can:

    • Overflow into siding and windows
    • Cause fascia rot
    • Lead to water in the basement or crawl space

We offer gutter cleaning and gutter protection systems (guards) to cut down on how often you need cleaning.

  • Can you help with drainage problems, not just gutters?

Yes. We install downspouts and extensions to move water away from:

    • Foundations
    • Patios
    • Walkways
    • Deck footings

Good drainage protects your home from long-term water damage.

Deck & outdoor living questions

  • Should I choose composite or wood for my deck?

    Both can be great.

    Composite deck installation:

    • Very low maintenance
    • No staining or sealing
    • Resists rot and insects
    • Great for rentals and busy families

    Wood deck installation:

    • Natural beauty and feel
    • Often preferred for lakefront homes
    • Can be stained in many colors
    • Needs periodic staining or sealing

We’ll talk through how often you want to deal with maintenance, how long you plan to stay, and what look you want.

  • Can you repair my existing deck, or do I need a new one?

We do deck repair, board replacement, and structural fixes all the time.

If your frame is solid, we may just replace boards, rails, or stairs. If posts or beams are rotting or not built to code, we’ll talk about rebuilding. We also offer deck refinishing and staining to bring older wood back to life.

  • Do you build pergolas, gazebos, and pavilions?

    Yes. We design and build:

    • Custom pergolas for shade and style
    • Gazebos and pavilions for seating, hot tubs, and outdoor kitchens

These projects are perfect for both luxury homes and vacation rentals that want that “wow” factor in listing photos.

Storm damage, insurance & emergencies

  • How do you help with insurance claims after hail or storm damage?

This is one of the biggest reasons people hire us. We:

    • Do a storm damage assessment
    • Document damage with photos, maps, and notes
    • Help you start the claim
    • Meet your adjuster on-site
    • Explain the damage in their language
    • Provide a clear repair or replacement estimate

You don’t have to fight with insurance alone. We walk through it with you.

  • Do you offer emergency repair services?

Yes. We provide emergency roof repair response for active leaks and storm damage.

    That usually means:

    • Tarping damaged areas to stop water intrusion
    • Making temporary repairs to keep your family dry and safe
    • Scheduling permanent repairs once the weather clears and insurance is involved if needed

If water is coming in now, call us. We treat that as urgent.

  • What if something goes wrong after the project is finished?

You call us. Simple as that.

Our money-back workmanship warranty (backed by a $30,000 third-party guarantee) covers installation defects for 10 years. If our work fails, we fix it. If we can’t fix it, we refund the affected portion.

We also honor manufacturer warranties and help you work with them if a product fails.

Process, pricing & financing

  • How does your 3-step process work for any project?

Our 3-step process is the same whether it’s a roof, siding, windows, gutters, or decks:

    • Legacy Assessment (Clarity) – We inspect your exterior, take photos, and show you exactly what needs attention now and what can wait.
    • Stewardship Plan (Confidence) – You get clear pricing, design ideas, and options that fit your budget and timeline.
    • Legacy Protection (Peace) – Our team completes the work, keeps you updated, and activates your warranty. You’re added to our Legacy Protection Program for ongoing check-ins.
  • Are you the cheapest contractor in Branson?

No. And we’re not trying to be.

We’re usually not the lowest bid. But our price includes:

    • Higher-quality materials
    • Background-checked, professional crews
    • 10-year workmanship warranty
    • Detailed clean-up
    • Community impact (10% to local churches, school lunch debt, and home giveaways)

Many clients who picked the cheapest contractor the first time call us later to fix problems. That ends up costing more.

  • Do you offer financing?

Yes. We partner with trusted lenders so you can spread your project cost over monthly payments.

    Financing is available for:

    • Roof replacement
    • Siding projects
    • Window and door upgrades
    • Deck builds

You can see your monthly payment and get pre-approved in a short online form without any pressure to move forward.

  • Do I have to be home while you work?

    Not all the time.

For the first visit, we like to walk the property with you if possible. After that:

    • Roofing, siding, gutters, and deck work can be done while you’re away
    • We send daily photo updates so you can see progress
    • At the end, we do a walkthrough with you (in person or by video if you’re out of town)

For vacation rentals, we work closely with your schedule so we’re finished before guests arrive.

  • Are your crews background-checked and respectful?

Yes. This matters to us a lot.

    Our crews are:

    • Background-checked
    • Trained to treat your home like their own
    • Non-smoking/vaping on site
    • Expected to clean up daily and use respectful language

We want you to feel safe and comfortable with anyone wearing our logo on your property.
